Electric mobility
Author Dan Harfield
Electric mobility has sparked a renaissance in how we think about transportation, from daily commutes to luxury experiences.
In the wake of Musk’s sweep of announcements regarding the future of Tesla taxis, I took the chance for a root around the world of electric vehicles to discover four examples of e-mobility that have inspired me.
HOP by OMI
Urban mobility doesn’t have to mean compromise. By questioning traditional vehicle design, OMI has created something remarkable in HOP – an electric vehicle that moves as naturally as a cyclist through city streets.
Beyond getting from A to B, this innovation focuses on harmonising with the urban rhythm while treading lightly on our environment. HOP proves that when we reimagine mobility from the ground up, we can create solutions that feel like they’ve always belonged.
Minimal - Electric logistics fleet
Cities pulse with deliveries, but our modern convenience often comes at the cost of congested streets and polluted air. Minimal tackles this challenge head-on with their electric logistics fleet. Their approach combines purposeful vehicle design with intelligent fulfilment systems, reimagining how goods move through urban spaces.
By building their entire system around electric mobility from the ground up, Minimal demonstrates how sustainable logistics can enhance rather than compromise service quality. Their vehicles feel perfectly scaled for the task at hand.
‘DEAP’ Trees by Rangr Studio for Gravity
Gravity and Rangr Studio have created something remarkable with DEAP Trees – charging points that bring power to where people naturally gather. These structures form a two-way relationship with the grid, enabling power sharing between cars, homes, and businesses.
Each ‘tree’ serves as a hub for modern urban life, incorporating everything from WiFi to air quality sensors. The design speaks to a future where charging infrastructure blends seamlessly into our cityscapes, making the transition to electric vehicles feel natural and inevitable.
Theory 1 by Lotus
The Theory 1 concept car by Lotus writes a new chapter in the supercar story. This vehicle translates combustion-era performance into electric form, reimagining what automotive excitement means in an electric age. The design draws from multiple worlds: the raw energy of supercars, the sophistication of luxury vehicles, and the clean efficiency of electric mobility.
What stands out to me is how Lotus has preserved the emotional pull of high-performance vehicles while embracing electric innovation, proving that sustainable technology and luxury can coexist beautifully.
These are just a few examples of how electric mobility can enhance rather than compromise our relationship with transport, creating new possibilities for how we move through our world.
