Femtech Brands Breaking Ground

Author Béatrice Lorans

Despite progress, women continue to face hurdles when it comes to accessing healthcare – from financial constraints, to gender biases, discrimination and the stigma surrounding women’s health issues.

Fortunately, a growing number of femtech brands are working to change this.

Here are a few that have inspired me this month:

Béa Fertility

Right now, one in seven couples in the UK faces infertility challenges. While fertility treatments are typically effective after multiple rounds, the costs of IVF and IUI means most people are locked out of the system. Now, femtech brand Béa is working to change this. Tapping into the convenience and customer-centricity of the D2C model, their home-based fertility kits are safely delivered to your door and come with pregnancy tests, fertility trackers and sperm donation pots, alongside an intracervical insemination (ICI) device.

Dame

When it comes to self-care, sexual wellness is still considered a taboo. As a result, most products in this space are garish and loud; they’re designed to be hidden, never on display. Now, pioneering femtech brand Dame is on a mission to normalise sexual wellness through thoughtful design. Their collection of products are elegantly understated, tapping into the growing trend of lifestyle design and allowing them to gracefully occupy a shelf without drawing undue attention.

Poppy Seed

It’s awful to think that stigma is often what prevents mothers and pregnant people from speaking out and seeking mental health support. And that’s exactly what Poppy Seed is working to change. Their app connects pregnant women with non-medical support from nurses, midwives, and doulas, with a focus on destigmatising mental health issues related to motherhood, fertility, and loss. Through thoughtful digital experience design, Poppy Seed are fostering mental well-being during pregnancy and motherhood while promoting inclusivity in healthcare.
