Ready for a dose of design inspiration? From groundbreaking furniture design to the future of footwear and a whimsical Wes Anderson exhibition, here are a few of the designs that have caught my eye lately…
Let’s dive in!
Gan x MUT Design
First up, let’s talk about the mesmerising GIRO series by MUT Design for GAN. If you ever played with a spirograph as a kid, you’ll instantly recognise the satisfying circles that dominate these designs. The colours, geometry, and textures of these rugs are an absolute delight for the senses and awaken the artist in all of us!
Germans Ermics – Tribute to Shiro Kuramat
Next on the list is a stunning tribute to the legendary designer Shiro Kuramata by Germans Ermics. The Ombré Glass Chair, a contemporary masterpiece, pays homage to Kuramata’s iconic Glass Chair from 1976. The chair’s simplicity, transparency, and weightlessness showcase the brilliance of glass as a material. They’ve created an illusion of floating planes, defying the boundaries of traditional furniture design.
Assa Studio Limited – Evolve
It looks like it was grown in a lab, and certainly unlike any athletic footwear I’ve seen before. Now, Assa Studio Limited has introduced the Evolve shoe, a boundary-pushing creation that merges biometrics and 3D printing. Embedded with a network of 3D-printed sensors, the gel midsole collects step-by-step biofeedback to improve the fit for the wearer and shape future iterations of the shoe. That’s one small step for shoes, one giant leap for the footwear industry (couldn’t help myself!)
Asteroid City – Exhibition at 180 Studios
Wes Anderson is renowned for his distinct film aesthetic, characterised by a delightful blend of retro influences and pastel colours. And now, you have the opportunity to step into the realm of the director’s new film, Asteroid City. Curated and presented by 180 Studios and Universal Pictures, the exhibition features original sets, props, costumes and artwork that capture Anderson’s signature.
As always, I’d love to hear about the creations that have sparked your imagination as well.
