Innovations in Product Design
Author Dan Harfield
It’s not hard to get inspired when there are so many exciting innovations in product design happening across the industry right now.
From breakthroughs in cultivated meat to inclusive computer controls, here are a few innovative design projects that have caught my eye.
Ligre x Relvãokellermann
Winner of the prestigious iF Design Gold Award, LIGRE is an espresso machine that beautifully embraces the coffee preparation ritual, blending into life without compromise. The design does a great job of capturing the modular aesthetic of contemporary coffee machines while invoking the emotion of the barista experience through detail and CMF.
Mouthpad by Augmental
Design has the power to transform lives, and this is a prime example. Designed to empower individuals with restricted movement, Augmental’s Mouthpad is a tongue-driven interface that controls your computer, smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. From sending emails to playing computer games and taking photos, this incredible innovation packs huge potential.
Meatable
Meatable, a pioneering Dutch cultivated meat company, have just achieved a groundbreaking feat in the world of food innovation. By taking a sample from an unharmed pig, they can create real, succulent, delicious meat from ‘cell to sausage’ in just 8 days – the world’s fastest process to create cultivated pork. Just in time for a summer BBQ then!
TP-7 by Teenage Engineering
Anyone following my posts will already know my appreciation for Teenage Engineering’s work, and their new TP-7 Memo recorder is no different. This digital field recorder fits perfectly in your hand and lets your fingers naturally adopt the controls. Striking a masterful balance of the nostalgic and contemporary, I feel their design style will be treasured for years to come.
