Looking for a creative boost?
I’m a true believer in the power of design inspiration to fuel fresh ideas – whether it’s using drawings as a starting point for textiles or using AI to create bespoke perfumes. The design community is constantly pushing the boundaries and finding creative opportunities from emerging technologies.
On that note, here’s a selection of exciting projects spanning textiles and tech design that have caught my eye this month!
ChatGPT x Samsung
This isn’t a collaboration as such, but a reminder that everything you share with ChatGPT is retained to train the model. Samsung learned that the hard way when their engineers copy and pasted source code into ChatGPT to check for errors and requested “code optimisation”. In the process, they shared confidential information with the AI – and this AI doesn’t keep secrets. Be careful out there!
Moooi x EveryHuman
For #MilanDesignWeek, Dutch lifestyle brand Moooi teamed up with Everyhuman – an “algorithmic perfumery” that uses AI to craft bespoke ambience fragrances. It’s exciting to see how technology can be used to enhance the sensory experience of our homes, and this collaboration is a great example of this in practice.
Ostro
Navigating the US healthcare system can be overwhelming for patients, with complex jargon and terminology. So, when RxDefine rebranded to “Ostro”, it was a smart move. The new name is simpler and easier to remember, and the brand’s modular, Meccano-like logo is both playful and approachable. By rebranding with the patient in mind, Ostro has made a positive step towards improving the user experience.
Kvadrat x Ronan Bouroullec
French designer Ronan Bouroullec’s drawings sit at the intersection of art and design: they are equally hypnotic and expressive as they are meticulous and deliberate. But since Bouroullec didn’t want them to be used as patterns, Danish textile brand Kvadrat reinterpreted them. The resulting collection is both modern and timeless, with a playfulness that is characteristic of Bouroullec’s work.
