Food Tech
Author Dan Harfield
Food tech is moving fast, opening new possibilities for kitchens, tables and the experiences around them.
This month, I’ve been exploring some of the ways in which pioneering brands are reimagining everyday tools and appliances through a fresh lens.
Dive in.
Terra Kaffe - Demi
Terra Kaffe’s new Demi builds on the TK-02 with a smaller footprint that doesn’t compromise on presence. The form feels approachable yet precise, full of carefully crafted touchpoints that elevate the everyday ritual of making coffee. I love the lo-fi, slightly naive UI; it sits so naturally in their design language that it gives the machine a disarming warmth.
It’s also just a really nice application of materials and colour, softening the tech while giving it a quietly premium character.
Gozney - Dome Gen 2
Gozney are back with the Dome Gen 2, a live-fire oven that takes the art of outdoor cooking well beyond pizza. Feedback from Michelin-starred chefs has shaped every detail, and there’s a tonne of neat, thoughtful design features that tackle the real opportunities and challenges of cooking outdoors.
From expanded cooking space to the hybrid fuel system, everything feels intentional. With a design language that oozes summer evenings with pizza and friends, they’ve captured the outdoor pizza oven zeitgeist.
Seattle Ultrasonics
I think this is a really clever idea, taking millennia-old knife technology and pushing it forward with ultrasonics. The result is a sharper cut that also lightens the effort, making food prep more accessible for anyone who struggles with strength or dexterity.
The opportunity here goes beyond one cool piece of kit, rethinking everyday tools through the lens of inclusion. I’m genuinely interested to see where Seattle Ultrasonics goes next and how this approach could reshape the way we design for the kitchen.
Thermomix x Neura Robotics
Food tech leaders Thermomix recently partnered with Neura Robotics to demonstrate a humanoid robot preparing a meal using the latest Thermomix model.
The showcase pointed to a future where robotics could provide in-place care, taking over everyday tasks and enabling those who can’t cook for themselves to maintain independence at home. At the same time, the new Thermomix TM-7 continues to push the boundaries of kitchen automation, showing how integrated tech and intelligent software can make cooking more seamless.
