Health & Wellbeing
Author Dan Harfield
The intersection of health tech and thoughtful design is creating exciting new possibilities for how we monitor and manage our wellbeing.
As these technologies mature, we’re seeing the evolution away from simple tracking devices to sophisticated ecosystems that integrate seamlessly into our daily lives.
What’s particularly interesting is how designers are reimagining existing technologies, combining them in novel ways to create more meaningful health experiences.
Here are four innovations in this space that caught my eye…
SAMSUNG E2E Health Experience
Unveiled at CES 2025, Samsung’s wellness ecosystem marks an exciting leap in health tech, blending innovative hardware with thoughtful service design. Through their Galaxy Ring, Watch, and interconnected apps, Samsung has crafted a compelling narrative around personalised health – where sleep monitoring flows naturally into nutrition guidance and smart home automation. This holistic approach challenges Apple’s dominance and showcases how deep service integration can transform everyday health management into something both powerful and approachable.
Eli Hormometer
While many have promised at-home hormone monitoring, Eli Health looks set to deliver the first practical solution that could transform this emerging wellness trend. Working from her experience as a data scientist, founder Marina noticed how little we know about our daily hormonal patterns. Their breakthrough at-home monitor, developed over five years with leading experts, aims to make continuous hormone tracking as normal as checking your step count – finally giving people real insights into their body’s hormonal rhythms.
Omina Smart Mirror by Withings
Withings’ Omnia demonstrates the power of thoughtful design integration. By combining weight tracking, heart monitoring, and AI assistance into our bathroom mirror (where we naturally pause each day), they’ve created a compelling health companion. Sure – smart mirrors and body composition scales already exist, as do health-focused AI chatbots from Oura and Fitbit. But Withings’ strategic combination of these technologies into a single seamless experience shows how smart design can transform existing innovations into genuine everyday value.
ZZZN Sleep Apparel System
ZZZN’s Sleep Apparel System takes the simple puffer jacket and turns it into something magical – a sleep solution you can use anywhere. They’ve cleverly mixed Japanese tradition (the Yagi nightwear) with modern tech like biometric rings and soothing soundscapes to create something that is just… dreamy (sorry). Even the lighting is thoughtfully designed, shifting from sunset red to morning blue. This kind of wild concept shows how wearable tech could evolve beyond the wrist into something more meaningful by blending naturally into the clothes we already wear.
