Innovations in Foodtech

Author Béatrice Lorans

This month, I’m delving into the burgeoning world of Foodtech innovations, exploring their transformative impact on the industry. From creative coffee roasting techniques to tackling food waste, here are a selection of projects that have inspired me lately.

Let’s dive in…

Ansā uses radio waves to roast your coffee beans

Ansā: Coffee Roasting Reimagined

Forget the noise and hassle of traditional coffee roasting ovens – this sleek, compact marvel promises an effortless user experience. The secret? Radio waves. Designed with the workplace in mind, Ansā’s pioneering approach uses dielectric heating, roasting coffee beans from their core to the surface. Less transport, less packaging and lower roasting temperatures all make Ansā’s solution more sustainable. Plus, its D2C model streamlines the process, making it both eco-friendly and efficient.

Mill: Turning Leftovers Into New Beginnings

The Mill bin doesn’t just store leftovers; it dries them out, so you can send them back to the company for repurposing. In a world where landfills are overflowing with food waste, Mill’s ingenuity lies in keeping leftovers in the food ecosystem, repurposing them into sustainable chicken feed. A great example of a subscription model that makes circularity simple.

Move over plastic and aluminium coffee capsules – enter the era of compact coffee balls. These innovative balls comprise compressed ground coffee wrapped in a layer of algae. In a world still grappling with non-biodegradable coffee pods, Coffee B offers a sustainable yet high-end user experience. Beyond coffee, this algae layer concept holds promise for other applications, like eco-friendly dishwasher tablets.

Share Thyme: Creating Culinary Connections

Food has always united people, and with the advent of technology, it continues to evolve in exciting ways. Share Thyme is a prime example, offering a platform where people connect to cook together. Echoing the success of platforms like Tinder or Gumtree, Share Thyme offers a fresh angle, focusing on intergenerational skill sharing. Though the app’s momentum was halted by the pandemic, its underlying idea holds timeless appeal.
