Consumer electronics brand Goodmans asked us to refresh their ailing low-cost off-the-shelf DAB radio using only colour, material and finish (CMF). We took the opportunity to transform the look and feel of their product through colour and pattern, helping the brand to make a bigger impact in retail spaces and create a highly marketable range.
The solution we arrived at was CANVAS - a friendly and simple design that uses nothing more than a set of patterned speaker fascias to create a playful variation at low cost. Its spectrum of muted colours and metallics helped create the foundations of a range and made the product instantly more appealing while remaining accessible and affordable.
Our cost effective solution required nothing more that a range of lovely created fascias, whose unique grill patterns brought the previously innocuous product to life and created a link with the colour palette we designed.
To complete the story, we designed packaging that would help create a clean, modern visual impact in retail spaces. With its new elegant CMF, CANVAS was a hit, attracting attention on the shop floor and garnering acclaim from the media.
The success of our solution didn’t stop there - CANVAS went on to inform the design direction for future products and played a leading role in kick-starting the new Goodmans brand.
