In this studio concept, we demonstrated the potential of lifestyle-design in consumer electronics. Instead of technical supremacy, we sought to celebrate beauty, simplicity and materiality and explore how consumer electronics when designed through the lens of lifestyle-design can better complement our evolving attitudes to our living spaces.
With consumer tastes shifting towards calm and clean interiors, electronics brands have an opportunity to take the softer aesthetic of minimalist furnishings and transpose this design language to their products. Given the room that TVs occupy, we feel that their designs should be treated more domestically, with more consideration for harmonising into the spaces they occupy.
From this vision, we conceptualised Poise - a lifestyle TV that goes beyond the television function to become an aesthetically pleasing accessory for the home. Through the use of domestic materials such as textiles and wood, we created a softer and more approachable object.
The central concept motif is a sculptural, steam-bent timber support that allows the TV to lean gently against the wall. A second configuration explores the same concept - this time, with the addition of a third leg that forms a free-standing tripod.
The screen floats within a slim aluminium reveal, creating a frame to conceal the speakers. Beneath the frame, a subtle cylindrical sound bar wrapped in rich woven textile lends warmth and tactility to the space.
By uniting the discreet and the noticeable, Poise TV achieves soft minimalism for modern homes. Rather than competing on resolution and thinness, this approach presents brands with an opportunity to push past traditional concepts and balance beauty with functionality.

Lifestyle Design at Rodd
We have long advocated for a sensitive approach to object and experience design, and are passionate about design that is sensitive to the significance of hierarchy in which products play within our homes and lifestyles.
If this is a design sensitivity you share then we would love to discuss how it manifests for your brand. Alternatively if lifestyle-design is a topic that's emerging in your brand space then we would love to share our views and discuss how we can support you to capitalise on this approach.
